A highly anticipated variegated cross combining the exceptional NSE Dressleri x Pap Var with the infamous Red Vein Dark Phoenix (RVDP).

These are currently sprouted seeds, and the size of the plant you receive will depend on the time of purchase as they continue to develop.

Mother Plant

The mother plant is NSE Dressleri x Pap Var, sourced from Wanna, a reputable aroid grower in Thailand.

This particular plant was personally hand-selected during our visit to Wanna’s nursery, located around 3–4 hours from Bangkok.

Wanna’s NSE Dressleri was originally sourced from NSE Tropicals in the USA, while the OG Pap Var used in the cross came from Thailand.

One of the reasons we particularly value this mother plant is its exceptional ability to produce variegated offspring. Across multiple batches, this particular variegated mother has consistently produced approximately 60–70% variegated seedlings.

Pollen Donor

The pollen donor is the Red Vein Dark Phoenix (RVDP) clone, sourced directly from Siam Flora Nursery, the original creators of this exceptional hybrid.

RVDP is renowned for its extremely dark, velvety foliage and intense red venation, creating the dramatic contrast that gives the plant its name.

The original RVDP hybrid was created through the pairing of Anthurium Papillilaminum Variegated Hybrid as the mother plant with Anthurium Ace of Spades as the pollen donor.

Bringing RVDP into this pairing adds the potential for deeper foliage, stronger venation, enhanced texture, and further colour development alongside the variegation from the mother plant.

Expectations

This is an especially exciting variegated pairing because both sides of the cross carry variegation genetics. The mother plant is a proven variegated Dressleri x Pap Var, while Pap Var is also the mother plant behind the RVDP pollen donor.

Because variegation is present on both sides of the pairing, we are expecting a significantly higher percentage of variegated seedlings across the batch compared to crosses where only one parent carries variegation.

RVDP has also consistently produced very unique variegation expressions whenever we have used it in our breeding, so we are particularly excited to see what it brings into this cross.

Combined with the proven 60–70% variegation rate of the mother plant in previous batches, this is one we have very high expectations for.
