Alupag, scientifically known as Dimocarpus Didyma, is a fruit tree that thrives across Southeast Asia. Although it is native to the Philippines, it has also extended its presence to neighboring countries. It is distinct from longan due to its slightly bumpy skin. In its native regions, the fruit is highly regarded, even though it often takes a back seat to its more famous and selectively bred relatives, the lychee and longan.
Alupag fruits are typically enjoyed in their fresh state, and they are esteemed for their exceptional taste. These fruits feature semi-transparent, whitish flesh enveloping a sizable black seed. The flavor is characterized as juicy and delicious. Their external appearance is defined by a warty, rough, brownish, and spherical peel.
While Alupag is commonly referred to as Lychee, its botanical name is Dimocarpus Didyma. Typically, this tree starts blooming and fruiting around 3 to 4 years of age and requires a moderate level of maintenance to thrive and produce fruit successfully.
