The Carambola, scientifically known as Averrhoa Carambola, is a fruit-bearing tree indigenous to the tropical regions of the Old World. Carambolas are distinctive fruits that grow on evergreen trees characterized by short trunks and dense branches. These oblong fruits undergo a color transformation from dark or light green to an orangey-yellow hue, featuring ribs or wings, sometimes adorned with hints of green. Beneath the fruit's thin and waxy skin, there is juicy and crisp yellow flesh that develops when fully ripe. When the fruits are immature, they tend to have a sour taste.

Carambolas are prized for their rich nutritional profile, which includes high levels of essential vitamins such as Vitamin C, Vitamin K, Vitamin A, and various B-complex vitamins. They also provide valuable antioxidant flavonoids, folate, fiber, and essential minerals like Potassium, Phosphorus, Zinc, and Iron.

Commonly known as Star fruit or 5 fingers, the botanical name for this tree is Averrhoa Carambola. It typically begins to bear fruit within 10-14 months of flowering and requires a moderate level of maintenance.
